### **What is a Patch**
Patches are updates for software and firmware. Unlike traditional updates that typically add new features and functionality, patches are specifically focused on fixing errors, removing exploits, and preventing hackers from entering your system.
Patches are often released along with other various updates and enhancements in a service pack. These are larger scale updates that may be released once or twice a year. More frequently, standalone security patches will be released to add additional protection and mitigate vulnerabilities.
